Back then, no one was measuring the climate consequences of our consumer society, nor was anyone talking about circular economy, a new economy designed as a natural ecosystem in which nothing disappears and everything is recycled.

According to the Circular Economy Institute, this new model enables products to be regarded as flows of materials and energy which are re-injected in successive virtuous loops. Like natural ecosystems, this system of production requires a minimum amount of resources and material and energy are neither wasted nor lost. What in the linear economy may be considered to be waste, whose sole purpose is to be buried or incinerated can have several lives in the circular economy
